The Inner East Cluster employs two Attendance Improvement Officers (AIO) to support families and ensure that all children and you people attend school and get the most from their education.
The Inner East Cluster also works in partnership with Leeds City Council’s Attendance Service, allowing us to provide support and legal advice to schools in relation to school attendance.
What do I do if my child is ill or is unable to come to school?
Please ring your child’s school and let them know as soon as possible.
What do I do if my child has a medical or dental appointment?
Please try to make any appointments out of school hours. If this is not possible you will need to inform your school.
What do I do if I want my child to stay at home to celebrate a religious festival?
Schools can authorise absence for religious observation. Please discuss with your school.
What do I do if I want to take my child on holiday during school time?
Schools in the Inner East Cluster believe that-
• Children must attend school regularly to achieve their potential
• Children who miss out on school can feel vulnerable and left behind
• Family holidays in term-time are disruptive and can seriously affect your children’s education
Parent/Carers do not have the right to remove their children from school for a holiday. From September 2013 the government has stated that Headteachers are no longer able to authorise holidays in term time. Please discuss any absence with your school. Holidays during term time can lead to a costly fine.
100% Attendance promotes 100% Achievement
If you believe your child requires attendance support please contact the cluster's team.
All requests for attendance support should be made through the Cluster’s Guidance and Support team.
